JEWELRY OPTIONS FOR FRESH PIERCINGS

Jewelry range depends on stock availability. Please contact us for specific jewelry availability. Jewelry should be chosen based on anatomy and on how much it will aid the healing process.

JEWELRY SELECTION

  • Stud (fresh nose, Philtrum, and most ear piercings except daith and rook)
  • Straight Barbell (fresh nipple and tongue piercings)
  • Curved Barbell (fresh navel, eyebrow and rook piercings)
  • Fixed or captive bead ring (fresh daith and septum piercings)

PIERCING WITH IMPROPER JEWELRY

Piercing with too thin a stud or ring

A fresh piercing with jewelry that is too small and/or thin will put pressure on the piercing along the entrance and exit, this can cause irritation and cause the body to respond by developing scar tissue or bumps at the surface of the skin near the piercing.

JEWELRY DOWNSIZING

Piercing should be done with jewelry that will encourage your body’s natural healing process. Fresh piercings are mostly done with jewelry that is a little longer or larger in diameter than needed. This can accommodate initial swelling and prevent any possible problems that arise from incorrectly sized jewelry. After 6 weeks of your piercing date, you could consider downsizing. It takes that much time for the healing process.

GOLD PIERCING JEWELRY

Fresh piercing will be done with implant grade titanium or steel backing that is longer or free to hold your gold jewelry after initial swelling subsides. This way you do not have to get double backings.

PIERCING WITH OUTSIDE PERSONAL JEWELRY

You can get your own ready to wear jewelry you would like to be pierced with. We can guide you if it will be suitable for the piercing.

BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT

Please take care to read the questions carefully and answer each one to keep our schedule running smoothly at appointment time.

  • Please show up for your appointment on time.
  • Please do not come on an empty stomach.
  • Please do not consume any alcohol or drugs before your appointment.
  • Please bring a physical copy of your state or federal issued photo ID.
  • Please let us know if you plan on flying soon, as high elevations can cause increased swelling.

AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT

Healing process depends on individual body, diet, climate, and lifestyle. Consistent aftercare and not touching, twisting, or interfering with the natural healing process will result in best healed piercing experience. The human body is designed to heal itself. Please follow the following guidelines and aftercare instructions. Please contact us in case you have any questions or concerns.

  • Do not treat your piercing without washing your hands with warm water and soap. Bacteria can be introduced to the open wound with unclean hands.
  • Do not touch, twist, or play with your new piercing. Twisting and turning your jewelry will irritate your piercing and introduce bacteria by rotation from your environment.
  • Do not use chemicals or any type of ointments (including alcohol, peroxide, bactine, Neosporin, bacitracin, tea tree oil etc.) on your piercing. This will cause irritation and prolong the healing time.
  • Do not submerge your piercing in the ocean, pools, baths and hot tubs during the healing process to avoid exposure to infection-causing bacteria.
  • Do not remove your jewelry yourself. If you want to take it out for a medical procedure, please visit us and we will help you with that.
  • Do not snag your new piercing with towels, clothing, fibers, seatbelts, and purses.
  • PLEASE NOTE: Please keep the jewelry in. Once you remove the jewelry, the hole will start to shrink and then it can become difficult to put your jewelry back in.

PIERCING AFTERCARE

Your piercing is a wound that your body will naturally heal. You job is to keep it clean while the healing process is on. The piercing will discharge fluids and cells during the healing process. We recommend washing your new piercing twice daily with saline wound wash such as NielMed Piercing aftercare spray that contains water and 0.9% sodium chloride. Please make sure you wash your hands with warm water and soap before touching your piercing.

ORAL PIERCINGS AFTERCARE

  • Maintain oral hygiene by rinsing your mouth twice daily with distilled water.
  • Rinse your mouth after eating, drinking except water or smoking.
  • Avoid foods that are hot in temperature, spicy or high in citric acid(grapefruit or oranges), as well as beer, wine or cheeses.
  • Try Ice chips, sleeping with your head elevated over your heart, and over the counter anti-inflammatory medicines like Ibuprofen.
  • Clean your jewelry once your piercing is healed as plaque can develop on it.
